Maintaining an ethical presence on Twitter: Why & how
In modern day journalism, Twitter is recognized as a powerful source for breaking news and is a way for journalists to break down barriers with readers, listeners and viewers. Keeping this thought in mind, day two of the Excellence in Journalism conference started with a panel on what it takes to be an ethical journalist on the social networking platform.
As the 2018 Excellence in Journalism News conference winds down here in Baltimore, attendees are beginning their journeys home. Over 1,100 people attended this year’s conference. Of these attendees 73% were professionals, 22% were students, and 2% were retirees. Some traveled further than others to get here.

Important lessons shared in wake of WDBJ shooting tragedy
It’s been three weeks since Vester Flanagan shot and killed two former WDBJ7 coworkers during a live broadcast in Franklin County, Virginia. Hundreds of EIJ15 attendees gathered at the Orlando World Center Marriott Saturday for a panel discussion about the shooting’s effects on the journalism community.
