Chrysler Group and Kaiser Permanente have teamed up to challenge the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Radio Television Digital News Association to “Step it Up.”
The program engages multicultural journalists to raise awareness of health and wellness issues impacting the Black and Hispanic communities. “We wanted to reach journalists because they are telling stories in the community,” said Valerie Oehmke, Manager of Corporate Communication at Chrysler. Oehmke feels journalists more than ever can reach the community. “By educating journalists, they can then go into the community and share their knowledge and help us promote healthy living,” Oehmke says.
For the next three days, the Chrysler Group Health Pavilion will have a series of challenges for journalists to check out, including a “dance mob” fitness workout. “We want journalists to lead the discussion in healthy living,” said Amy Wang, Communications Specialist at Kaiser Permanente. Wang looks forward to the next three days, “today is all about fitness, then tomorrow will be all about nutrition. Ultimately, we want people to know how they can live longer.”
